The 10 yard is our shortest can — 12 feet long, 8 feet wide, and only about 3.5 feet of side wall, so you are pitching debris in from chest height instead of climbing a ladder. Why people choose the 10 yard
Volume is not what stops most Scranton jobs — weight is. Pre-war plaster and wood lath runs roughly two to three times the weight of drywall for the same cubic footage. A hallway and two bedrooms stripped to the studs in a Green Ridge foursquare will hit two and a half tons before the debris reaches the top rail. In a bigger can you would have simply kept loading and blown the allowance.
The short wall changes how fast the job goes. At 3.5 feet you shovel and toss straight over the side. Nobody is walking buckets up a plank or heaving a plaster-loaded wheelbarrow at chest level for six hours. On a two-man crew that difference is worth more than the extra cubic yards, and it is why our roofing and heavy debris customers ask for this one by name.
It also goes where nothing else does. Will it fit?
Plan on 12 feet of level ground plus a little slack, 8 feet of width, and roughly 60 feet of straight approach for the truck to back in. The hoist needs about 23 feet overhead, which matters on older Scranton streets where the service drop to the house hangs low. This can clear low-hanging limbs and second-floor porch roofs better than any other size we run. No off-street parking means a street placement and a City of Scranton permit.

Why would I rent the smallest dumpster for a big demolition job?
Because dense material fills the weight ticket long before it fills the box. Plaster, brick, slate and concrete all weigh two to five times what people expect. Two 10 yard hauls of plaster cost less trouble than one 20 yard that goes over allowance and cannot legally be tarped or moved. We would rather swap a small can twice than leave you with a container the truck cannot lift.
Will a 10 yard dumpster fit in my driveway?
Almost always. Twelve by eight fits a single-car driveway with walking room on one side, and we set protection boards under the rails on every delivery, no charge. The bigger question is the approach — we need roughly 60 feet of straight run and 23 feet of overhead clear. Send Mike a photo from the street and he will tell you straight.
How much can I actually put in it?
About three pickup truck loads by volume, with a two to three ton allowance depending on material. For light household debris you will fill the box first. For plaster, tile, masonry or wet basement material you will hit the tonnage first, usually around the two-thirds mark. Load level with the top rail either way — nothing riding above the rail can go down the road.
Is this the right can for a slate roof tear-off?
Yes, and it is the only one we recommend. Original Scranton slate runs roughly 700 to 1,000 pounds per square, so even a modest roof needs staged hauls. We drop one, you fill it, we swap it same or next day and keep going. See the roofing service page or the tear-off size guide for square counts.
Can I get one delivered in winter?
We run all winter. Frozen ground is fine — it is actually easier on lawns than March mud. What we ask is that the placement spot gets cleared of snow before the truck arrives, because a plough bank eats three feet of width and the driver cannot set rails on ice. If a storm is coming, call early and we will schedule around the plough routes.
