Why people choose the 15 yard
Most homeowners overbuy. They picture the pile in the garage, panic, and order 30 yards for a job that is honestly one room and a hallway. A 15 handles a full kitchen gut — cabinets, counters, subfloor, appliances, backer board — with room to spare, and you are not paying to haul air across Lackawanna County.
It is also the honest asphalt roofing size. A typical 20 to 25 square shingle tear-off with a single layer lands inside both the volume and the tonnage here. Two layers and you are talking to us about staging a swap or dropping to a 10 yard. Slate is never this can — that is a small container job every time.
The extra six inches of wall over the 10 sounds like nothing until you are loading cabinets and door slabs. Four feet still lets an average person pitch debris over the rail without a ladder, but the box swallows bulky flat items that would bridge and waste space in a shorter can. It is the best balance of reach and capacity we run.

Will it fit?
You need about 18 feet of clear ground, 8 feet of width, and a straight approach of roughly 60 feet so the driver can back and hoist in line. Overhead wants about 23 feet, which is what catches people under mature maples and low service drops. In the Hill Section and on East Mountain the grade matters as much as the length. If the driveway will not take it, we place at the curb with a city permit.

Is a 15 yard big enough for a whole house cleanout?
Usually not, unless the house is small and already half empty. A standard three-bedroom with furniture, boxes, a basement and an attic runs closer to 20 or 30 yards. Walk it room by room, or use our cleanout checklist. If you are unsure, order the 15 and we will swap it — that is cheaper than paying for volume you never fill.
What is the difference between the 15 and the 20?
Six feet of length, six inches of wall and about one extra ton of allowance. The 20 is the default for multi-room projects and general construction. The 15 is the single-project can, and it is easier to place on a city lot. If your job has one clear boundary, take the 15. Compare on the 20 yard page.
Can I put a mix of materials in it?
Yes, general mixed construction and household debris is fine in one load. What cannot go in are tires, batteries, paint, fuel, propane tanks, appliances holding refrigerant, and anything flagged hazardous. Heavy clean fill such as concrete or dirt needs its own dedicated container, not a mixed load. The county disposal rules spell out the full list.
How long do I get to keep it?
Standard rental runs about a week, and most remodels finish inside that. If your contractor pushes or the weather turns, call before the pickup date and we extend it — no drama, no scramble. We would rather you call than start piling debris on the ground next to the container because you thought the clock ran out.
Do I need a permit for a 15 yard?
Only if it sits on a public street or sidewalk. On your own driveway or lot, no permit. Downtown, in South Side, and anywhere without off-street parking, the City of Scranton wants a street occupancy permit before the can drops.
